Of course, colorfully topped with fresh fruit and crunchy Orange Coconut Granola.
That really gets me dreaming about summer . . . do you feel me? ☀️
This bowl is super easy to make and is full of vitamins and loads of taste.
For me, this is simply the perfect start to a warm summer’s day. 💛
Spring is finally here (and already 2 sunny days in a row 🙌). And the anticipation for summer has totally got the best of me. As in every year actually . . . 😅Does that sound familiar to you?
Finally no longer trudged in heavy coats and thick scarves, resembling a Michelin mascot trudging around.
But dancing in airy dresses & sandals in the sun. I just cannot wait for summer to be finally here. Do you? 🤔
But for now, let’s celebrate the beginning of the warm season.
With a breakfast for all you sun dancers out there.
Your refreshing Green Spirulina Smoothie Bowl is already waiting for you.
Green Spirulina Smoothie Bowl ingredients
First of all, as with almost any smoothie, you need some really ripe bananas. This will make your Smoothie Bowl beautifully creamy and wonderfully fruity sweet. And they are easier to digest, too. You can also use frozen bananas (previously sliced). Then your bowl will be more on the cooler side. This is wonderfully refreshing, especially in summer.
The list goes on with mango, kiwi and the juice of an orange. Mangoes & oranges are sunshine in fruit form really. And a green kiwi shouldn’t be missed in a green smoothie bowl, right? In addition, the fruits provide many important vitamins and minerals. They are full of vitamins A, C, K and carotenoids. Contain potassium & magnesium, and these are just a few of the good ingredients.
The kohlrabi leaves & zucchini provide the healthy greens for your smoothie bowl. Of course, the leaves should come from an organic kohlrabi. After all, the leaves grow on top of the earth and are thus exposed to everything that is sprayed there. 🙈
You may wonder why I use the leaves instead of the kohlrabi tuber. Quite simply, the leaves contain the same good ingredients as in the tuber. Only in higher concentration. For example, vitamins A, C & magnesium.
So always go with the greens. 🙂
If the grocery store of your trust doesn’t sell kohlrabi with leaves, you can just use kale or lamb’s lettuce instead.
Sunflower seeds provide healthy fats in the form of unsaturated fatty acids. This is important because vitamin A can only be absorbed by the body in combination with fat. In addition, the little seeds contain plant-based protein, vitamins B1, B2, B6 & E, calcium, magnesium & iron.
And finally, of course, a spoonful of spirulina powder is added to the blender. This algae powder is really a little wonder weapon in terms of health. It consists of about 2/3 of high quality plant-based protein. Contains, among others, vitamins A, K & B1, B2, B3. And is rich in magnesium, iron & manganese. If you want to know more about what Spirulina can do for you and your health, here are 10 good reasons to take Spirulina daily. I was just amazed. 🙂
How to make Green Spirulina Smoothie Bowl
The most important thing you need for this breakfast is a good high speed blender. I have already written a little something about the benefits of such a (admittedly a little pricey) device in my Green Detox Smoothie post.
In our kitchen, we have been using our Bianco di Puro for over three years now and are still very happy with it.
Because if it’s not a smoothie bowl for breakfast, we definitely have a classic smoothie first thing in the morning every single day.
Anyways, back to our smoothie bowl.
Simply put all the ingredients in your blender and let everything blend for 1-2 minutes on a high level. My Blender has a special program for green smoothies. This goes for almost 2 minutes. Then everything is really super creamy and not a trace of any bits left.
Pour the finished smoothie into a nice large bowl (or two small ones, if you want to share 🙂).
Now you can top it off to your heart’s content.
Today I went for colorful exotic toppings: mango pieces, pomegranate seeds, coconut chips & goji berries.
And for all my crunch fans in front of the screen, I also generously added my beloved Orange Coconut Granola to my bowl. So dreamy! 🤤
During summer, when it’s already really warm in the mornings, it’s a good idea to use frozen bananas for your smoothie bowl. This makes it wonderfully cool and even more refreshing.
Just cut the bananas into slices and freeze them for a few hours (or better overnight). The frozen slices are then added to your blender with the other ingredients as usual.
I’m really so looking forward for summer to begin (Am I repeating myself? 🤔sorry not sorry 😘).
And cannot wait to create many delicious, healthy & refreshing smoothie bowls.
And then enjoy them on our balcony for breakfast.
I hope I have infected you a bit with my summer smoothie bowl euphoria.
Give this colorful & healthy breakfast a try soon.
You prefer to drink your smoothie the classic way?
Then simply pour 200 ml of water, juice or plant milk into the blender. And you can already enjoy a green Spirulina smoothie. Or give my Purple Love Smoothie a slurp 💜. A bright creamy vitamin bomb for sure.
And just perfect if you’re not into the green smoothie game.
Happy slurping and enjoy!
If you need me, I’ll continue dreaming a little bit about summer 🦋
. . . and enjoy my Green Spirulina Smoothie Bowl. Cheers!
